PhD topic:
My research focuses on the design, fabrication, and characterization of high-power on-chip lasers, with potential applications in generating microcombs and mode-locked lasers. To achieve these high power outputs, I employ a combination of thin film materials such as rare earths, sapphire, and III-V compounds. These lasers are then heterogeneously integrated into a CMOS-compatible silicon nitride platform, aiming for a significant reduction in Size, Weight, Power, and Cost (SWaP-C). This work aims to push the boundaries of integrated photonics, miniaturizing high-power laser systems at scale for a wide range of applications.
This research is conducted under the supervision of Prof. Bart Kuyken and Prof. Kasper Van Gasse.
