PhD topic:
My PhD project focuses on exploring the applications of microcombs in optical communication systems. Microcombs, particularly in wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) systems, offer significant potential by replacing traditional arrays of discrete wavelength laser sources with a single optical frequency comb, leading to reduced energy consumption. The project aims to investigate realistic communication scenarios where microcombs can possibly be employed, including short-reach, intra- and inter-data center links. By identifying beneficial use-case scenarios and developing optimized comb-based transmitter designs, the project seeks to enhance the efficiency and performance of optical communication systems. The MicrocombSys project is expected to pave the way for broader applications of microcombs in communication systems, potentially revolutionizing the field with more energy-efficient and high-performance solutions.
