PhD topic:
The project aims to develop a chip-scale optical frequency comb source suitable for terabit communications in datacenter environments. Specifically, the main objective is to investigate the integration of microcombs in DWDM high-speed links for datacenter applications. By leveraging microcombs, my research seeks to enhance the capacity of optical links in datacenters, potentially enabling power-efficient comb generation schemes for multi-wavelength optical communications. Based on this ongoing project, we anticipate finding a deterministic and reliable pathway to enable microcomb initiation at relatively low pump powers by using integrated components, such as nonlinear Si3N4 microring resonators, which exhibit small footprint and high Q-factors. The successful implementation and integration of such a microcomb in DWDM links, could significantly impact the performance and energy efficiency of future datacenter networks.
